The section that I choose to read was “And Yet” which focuses on distinguishing what you say from what they say. I choose to read this section of “They Say, I Say” because I wanted to read and learn from a chapter that could potentially help me construct a Naysayer paragraph. This section better explained to me ways that I could start a Naysayer paragraph. Some of the templet examples that I found helpful were… Although X makes the best possible case for universal, government-funded health care, I am not persuaded” (page 71)”. I think that this templet helped give me a push and guide me in the right direction on how I should list my opinion while addressing that I have acknowledged the other point of view. I put the information I learned from this section to use in my last body paragraph when I compare my thoughts about narratives to Strawsons.

Strawson is one who believes “there is no complete life, there are only fragments” (Strawson). What Strawson means by this is that overtime when we experience events in our life, we do not always remember every detail. Strawson believes when we leave out and forget details we are then telling a false narative. But, I believe that the details we forget from our life story can’t hold to much importance if they are so easy to forget.

You can see that at first I address Strawsons point of view, I accknowldge that I understand what he is trying to address by trying to put his thoughts into my own words, and then I use that simple but powerful shifting word “but” to shift gears to my opinion on the topic.
